We recently updated our backup software to officially support 64-bit systems. This has raised questions from some of you concerning how to get the new 64-bit version. The answer to this question depends on whether you already have Keepit installed or not.
If you do NOT have Keepit installed
If you don’t already have Keepit installed, you can simply download the latest version of Keepit from this link: http://keepit.com/download
The system will automatically detect your OS version and let your download it.
If you DO have Keepit installed
If you already have the 32-bit version of Keepit installed, you must uninstall this before installing the 64-bit version. We recommend that you follow these steps to ensure that best experience:
1. Backup your encryption key. You can create a copy of the key under the “User” tab in your current Keepit installation
2. Uninstall the old version of Keepit
3. Download the latest Keepit 64-bit version. The system will automatically detect your OS version and let you download it. You can download it here: http://www.keepit.com/download
4. Install the new Keepit 64-bit
5. After installing the new version, you should log in using your username and password
6. After loggin in, Keepit will ask for you encryption key. Depending on whether you exported the key as a file or printed it(in step 1), you should now either import the key or enter it manually.
7. The last — but extremely important — step before you can start the next backup, is to choose the exact same folders to include in your backup, as you had before. You can do this under the “Settings” tab.
After this you should be running smoothly again. I recommend double checking your backup after completing the first backup with the 64-bit version, to ensure that you have included all the files and folders you want.
