Keepit for Linux now available!

Put on your party hats and break out the champagne. Keepit for Linux is finally here!

Since the early days of Keepit, support for Linux has been on the top of our wish list, and now that it’s here we can hardly hide our excitement with the new release of Keepit 3.0, providing support for Linux and system restore and a range of other improvements.

Enabling support for Linux is an important step toward being able to better serve our business customers in backing up their Linux based servers and computers. Currently, Keepit supports Linux using the Debian architecture, but we expect to be adding other versions in the future. The client will provide both a GUI and a command line version, making it a useful tool for both the desktop Linux user using our GUI version and the server administrator preferring to manage the servers using a command line.

System Restore on Windowss

Keepit 3.0 also delivers new goodies for our Windows users. When properly configured, Keepit can back up a full Windows Server including all installed applications, their data and all user settings and data. This backup can be used for disaster recovery and the entire backup can be restored “in-place” over a bare Windows installation on another server.

Keepit 3.0 Changelog

  • Debian is now a fully supported platform
  • Added system restore ability for Windows XP/2003 and newer
  • Addded completely new command line client for advanced uses
  • Product quality has been improved through both rigorous testing and through advanced static analysis of our code base
  • Completely re-written network and disk IO handling
  • A range of various other problems was addressed and fixed

Yes, we are very much still alive, but we are currently using our energy to work on the Client, and not so much on the webpage, but I can assure you that we are indeed still alive. I have updated this post to include the requested links. Thorbjørn Lynggaard Sørensen - KeepIt Quality Assurance
