See yourself in Cyber – Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022

This year's Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme is 'See Yourself in Cyber' – no matter what role you play.

That's an empowering stance – one that invites you to take responsibility and step up – as an individual, as an employee, as an organization, and as an industry.

It speaks to your responsibility to your customers, members, and users – to your industry, to your country, to the world – you name it, you have a share.

It's telling you that you have control – not over everything, but over some things – and you should use it. Forget fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Take charge and act.

Why is Cybersecurity important?

The threat of ransomware attacks is at an all-time high. In 2021 alone, ransomware attacks cost the world $20 billion. With such a rapid increase in data breaches, secure backup is more important than ever.

But many companies don't know where to start. In fact, there’s a common disconnect among companies who assume that their SaaS vendors are automatically backing up their data. One ESG survey revealed that 86% of IT decision-makers reported relying on a SaaS vendor for data protection.

This reliance on SaaS vendors is risky, as they are not obligated to back up your data. In the event of a ransomware attack, this naïve reliance often leads to the loss of important data.

More specifically, only 14% of organizations report protecting more than 90% of their mission-critical applications!

Keepit's take on embracing cybersecurity

We at Keepit believe in using data protection to strengthen your business and your part of the world – turn the stumbling blocks into a force for good.

Cybersecurity and data protection are not just technology decisions. They're an opportunity to ensure business continuity - an opportunity to protect your business, strengthen it, and prepare it for the future, whatever that may be.

If your data is protected and always available to you, you can carry on servicing customers and stakeholders, regardless of what happens.

What you can do

At Keepit, we use Cybersecurity Awareness Month to spread insights and advice - and to inspire you to embrace cybersecurity - and our corner of this space (data protection) in particular!

Here are some insights from us to you - to help you step up to your role in cybersecurity and data protection (both for your own sake and for everyone else.)

Your cloud data is your responsibility – not your SaaS provider's

Your cloud service providers – Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, etc.  - are not responsible for the safe keeping of your data. You are.
