M365 connector

What happens to backups after Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration

If you migrate an existing Microsoft 365 tenant to a new tenant, this means you will have create a new connector in Keepit for the new tenant.  It is not possible to reconnect an existing connector to the new tenant.

Would you recommend taking any additional precautionary backups before initiating the migration?

Migrating data does not remove it from the source tenant. However, before deactivating user licenses, ensure a backup has successfully completed in the new connector after redirecting workflows to the new tenants.

Are there any retention settings or configurations that need to be adjusted to prevent data loss post-migration?

Yes, retention is managed at the connector level. Ensure your retention policies align with your data preservation needs before completing the migration.

Will existing backup data remain available for restores after the tenant migration?

Existing backup data will remain accessible within the connector for its designated retention period.

Can files be restored from the connector backing up the old tenant?

If the original tenant is deleted, restoration will not be possible. However, you have the following options:

  • Import Wizard – Use this tool to migrate data.
  • Restore SharePoint sites to another tenant – SharePoint sites can be restored to a different tenant.
  • Manual transfer – For other scenarios, data must be downloaded and manually moved to the new location.
