What counts as a seat in a Power BI backup
What is a seat
At Keepit, we use “seat” as the metric to measure your consumption of our services.
Conditions for a Microsoft Power BI user to count as a seat
To be counted as a seat, the following must apply:
- The user must be a member of the tenant (guests are not counted as seats)
- The user must have access to Power BI (i.e., must have a valid Power BI plan)
- The user must be active (not deleted or blocked)
Seat types
Depending on its license type, the user will be assigned a seat type:
- Full
- Light
E5 licenses
Most Microsoft E5 licenses have a Power BI Pro included which means that any active user with an E5 will be counted as a full seat. Additionally, each "Power BI Premium per capacity" license is counted as 500 Power BI Premium seats equaling 500 full seats.
