Requirements for setting up your Confluence backup

Before setting up the Confluence connector, it is highly recommended to create a dedicated user account in Confluence with access to all the entities that need to be backed up. We will refer to this account as the Keepit Service Account.

To grant the necessary permissions to the Keepit Service Account:

1. Go to your organization's admin page admin.atlassian.com.

2. In the top navigation, select Directory.

3. From the Users list, locate and select the account named Keepit Service Account.

4. In the user settings panel, ensure you are viewing the correct organization — the one whose Confluence site you want to connect.

5 In the Product roles column, for the selected organization, assign the App Admin role under the Confluence product.

Important: Ensure this role is applied to the correct organization’s Confluence instance. Roles are assigned per product per organization.

If the admin account used to authenticate the connector does not have access to a specific Confluence page, that page will not be included in the backup. To ensure a complete backup, including restricted pages, blog posts, spaces, and other content, individual Confluence users must explicitly grant access to their restricted content.

Each user should:

  • Share their restricted pages, blog posts or spaces with the Keepit Service Account.
  • Ensure the account has at least view permissions for the content that should appear in the backup.

Without this permission, restricted content will not be visible to the service and will be excluded from the backup.
