Forma holds the working record of a live construction project. A single mid-sized project can generate tens of thousands of documents and years of collaboration history, and none of it is duplicated anywhere else by default.
The risk of losing access to that data is measurable. Construction was the most-attacked sector by ransomware in 2025, with incidents up 41% year over year and 24 days of average downtime per attack. Bouygues, a construction giant, was hit in 2020 — a documented case, not a hypothetical one.
Autodesk's own responsibility stops at the platform. Forma runs on AWS, so two infrastructure layers sit between a customer's data and the customer, and neither is under the customer's control. Deletions in Forma today are soft deletes, and Autodesk has confirmed hard-delete is coming to its roadmap, narrowing the recovery window further. Under the shared-responsibility model that governs every SaaS application, Autodesk secures the platform, but the customer owns the data.
An independent backup closes that gap: a vendor-neutral copy of Forma's data that exists outside Autodesk's infrastructure, so a project's history can be recovered on its own terms rather than Autodesk's.

Once a customer chooses a Keepit region for backup, their data never leaves that region. Not only does Keepit guarantee that backup data will always stay in that region, but no processes exist that could even transfer backup data out of that region (aside from customer-initiated restores and downloads, of course). Should systems in a region ever need to be moved out of that jurisdiction, Keepit will negotiate the move with all affected customers prior to execution.
