Keepit gives OCC Assekuradeur simpler backup and faster recovery

OCC Assekuradeur GmbH has spent more than 40 years building a reputation as one of Germany and Austria’s leading specialist insurers for collector’s vehicles. Protecting the data that keeps that business running is the responsibility of Jan Ebinger, IT Service Specialist. When the company’s existing backup solution started getting in the way rather than staying out of it, Jan went looking for something better.

Our previous solution had high maintenance effort, high costs, and poor usability. We needed something simpler, more reliable, and easier to justify.

Finding a backup solution built for compliance, not complexity

OCC’s Microsoft 365 environment spans Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Entra ID, roughly 10 terabytes of data that employees depend on every day. The company’s data protection requirements are driven by EU data privacy regulations, internal security standards, and the need for flexible retention policies. That’s a serious compliance picture, and Jan needed a solution that could meet it without adding overhead.

The previous solution had too much maintenance overhead, unpredictable costs, and a user experience that made routine tasks harder than they needed to be. The IT team chose Keepit for its simplicity, reliability, and transparent pricing, and because it could meet OCC’s compliance requirements without adding to the team’s workload.

Data sovereignty matters

OCC needed its backup data stored in Germany to meet EU data protection regulations, and Keepit’s Germany data center made that an easy decision.

Keepit’s vendor-independent architecture stores backups in a dedicated cloud separate from Microsoft’s infrastructure, so the backup stays intact and accessible regardless of what happens in the primary environment. Immutability and encryption met OCC’s internal security standards and rounded out the decision.

The Germany data center option was important for our compliance with EU data protection regulations. Vendor independence, immutability, and encryption were also factors in our decision.

Granular restore means recovering exactly what is needed

Since deploying Keepit, the features Jan relies on most are the ones that make day-to-day operations easier. Easy connectors integrate directly with each Microsoft 365 service. And granular restore capabilities let the team recover exactly what’s needed, whether that’s a single email, a SharePoint file, or an entire Teams channel, without having to restore everything at once.

Recovery tests have gone well, giving the IT team the confidence that when it matters most, they can get their data back.

Lower costs, faster recovery, more confidence

The results are tangible. Keepit reduced OCC’s backup costs, improved recovery times, and simplified the infrastructure Jan’s team needs to manage. But the outcome that matters most might be harder to put a number on: the team can trust that their data is protected and that they can get it back when they need it.

For a specialist insurer whose business depends on accuracy, reliability, and trust, that confidence carries real weight.

Keepit reduced costs, improved recovery times, and simplified our infrastructure. But most importantly, it increased our confidence that our data is protected.
