Power BI backup data coverage

The Power BI connector protects reports and Gen1 dataflows in Power BI workspaces.

Backup structure

Keepit organizes your Power BI data as follows:

Workspace

  • Dataflows
  • Reports

Limitations

Reports

We back up only reports that you can download as a .pbix file. This includes:

  • Reports created in Power BI Desktop and published to the Power BI service
  • Reports where you uploaded the .pbix file to the Power BI service

We don’t back up reports created in the Power BI service. For a full list of limitations, see Download a report from the Power BI service to Power BI Desktop in the Microsoft documentation.

Other items

We don’t back up:

  • Personal workspaces (My workspaces)
  • Taskflows
  • Gen2 dataflows
  • Datasets as separate items

We also don’t back up capacities or sensitivity label configurations, but we do back up the following:

  • Which capacities are assigned to a workspace
  • Where sensitivity labels are applied

Reports include copies of their datasets, and we back up those copies. Because a single dataset can be part of many workspaces, your backup may contain duplicate datasets.
