How education seats are counted
This article explains how Keepit counts seats for customers on education licenses across Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, and Google Workspace.
How education seat counting works
Education seat counting follows the same general principles as standard seat counting. Each time Keepit runs a backup job, we count seats based on what's included in your backup coverage.
For Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, education licenses use two seat types: Faculty and Student. For Google Workspace, education licenses use a single Education seat type with no Faculty/Student distinction.
Education pricing corresponds to a 50% discount compared to standard licenses.
Faculty and Student seats
For Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, each faculty license entitles the customer to one Faculty seat and up to seven Student seats. Student seats are included at no additional cost, but cannot exceed the 1:7 faculty-to-student seat ratio.
Keepit counts seats based on the licenses assigned to users in the backed-up application.
Education seats in Google Workspace
Google Workspace doesn't use the Faculty/Student distinction. All users on education licenses count as Education seats.
