Can I restore any part of my SharePoint data?
You can restore most of your SharePoint data, including metadata and configuration settings. Keepit can't restore certain data if parent content or configurations — such as views and permissions — are missing from SharePoint. Without this context, Keepit has nowhere to restore the data, or SharePoint can't display it correctly.
For this reason, restore data at the highest appropriate level so it's restored intact, together with the configuration and permissions that define how it's displayed and who has access.
You can't restore user-related data, metadata, permissions, and assignments if the user has been deleted from Microsoft Entra ID.
You can't restore a subsite or data from a subsite if the Subsite in SharePoint has a different ID — for example, if a subsite was deleted and recreated. The Subsite and its items are skipped.
Specific Cases
The following cases describe when items aren't restored or are restored with missing elements.
Site content type
Site Content Type can't be restored if the Site Column or parent Content Type isn't present in SharePoint.
Group of people
If you restore a Group of people, users deleted from the Microsoft 365 account aren't restored. All others are restored.
User assignments
User Assignments can't be restored if the required user role isn't present in SharePoint.
List content type
List Content Type can't be restored if the parent Content Type isn't present in the SharePoint site and the required List Column isn't present in the list. A custom List Content Type can't be restored if it's assigned to a folder — the data is restored as a default Folder content type instead.
List item
If the list content type of the list item isn't present in SharePoint, the item is restored with the default content type.
If the list column of the list item isn't present in SharePoint, the item is restored without the column's properties.
Note: List items can't be restored if List metadata columns contain symbols, special characters, or spaces in their names.
List view
If the List column of the list view isn't present in the list, the view is restored without the column.
Item permission
An item permission can't be restored if the site, subsite, permission level, group role, user role, list or document library, or list item or document Library file aren't present in SharePoint.
List permission
A list permission can't be restored if the permission level, group role, or user role isn't present in SharePoint.
